Graham Cavanaugh

Graham Cavanaugh is a man in his late fifties. He is the former husband of Elspeth, and he is now married to Audra. He works as a medical venture capitalist and lives in an apartment in New York City with Audra and their son Matthew. Graham’s personality is largely defined by introversion and a sense of consistent low-level anxiety. Graham’s relationship with Audra began as an affair while Graham was still married to Elspeth. Graham is more similar in personality to Elspeth, but he finds that he is more compatible with Audra.

The entire novel is told from Graham’s perspective, but he is a generally passive person. He observes the events of the novel more often than he actively influences them.
