Gotland, Sweden
For much of the novel, Harvath and his team are on the tiny Swedish island of Gotland, in particular its largest town, Visby. Under normal conditions, Gotland is an idyllic Scandinavian community, full of charming farms and quiet towns, where many seems to know everybody. However, for Harvath and his crew, Gotland must be viewed as a vital strategic location in the geopolitical battle between Russia and America, as Gotland is in-between the NATO countries of Western Europe, and Russia itself. Harvath and his crew must work under dangerous conditions to uncover the Russian cell that has subtly embedded into the Gotland community, which results in a lethal firefight in a quiet beachside neighborhood.
