Summary
Chapter 47
Parsefall walks carefully out onto the ice, gives Clara a rope, and gently pulls her to safety. The housekeeper and her son come out and take the children back inside. When they reach the house, the children are surprised to see that the tower has fallen. Parsefall tells the housekeeper that Grisini fell through the ice and drowned, so she sends her son to get the constable. The children then go up to see Cassandra who is deeply grieved by losing her stone. Lizzie Rose talks the children into caring for Cassandra despite her cruelty toward them in her grief.

Dr. Wintermute is home reading when the butler tells him that Mrs. Pinchbeck has come to visit him. Dr. Wintermute is excited by this, hoping that Mrs. Pinchbeck might have some information for him. Mrs. Pinchbeck shows...
