Chapter Twelve Summary

The Royal Court does not take lightly to Rose's actions. Eddie is given a lesser assignment as a result of his involvement. Fortunately for Rose, she is not suspected of Victor's escaping prison and so her punishment is less severe. She is introduced to Hans Croft, the head Guardian instrumental in assignments, and grilled along with Eddie by the senior commander. Croft warns Rose she may spend her entire career behind a desk as result of her idiocy in going to Vegas. She and Eddie are given physically demanding, 12-hour per day hard labor work details for days on end. Eventually Christian shows up and surreptitiously visits with her while she's working a rock detail.
