Snapshots of Ecopoiesis Summary
Tyler and Diane rent a room in Cocoa Beach, waiting for Jason to join them on the following day. They sit on the hotel's balcony and discuss their respective activities during the past few years. Tyler explains that the plan to colonize Mars is a case of ecopoiesis, a term coined by a scientist in 1990 to refer to the activity of creating a biosphere where none exists. The plan uses the time difference created by the Spin to allow a relatively quick evolution on Mars. After bombarding its surface with living seeds that will eventually create a biosphere, the humans would send volunteers to colonize the newly created environment and start a civilization of their own.
