Point of View
This novel is told from the first person point of view of Brooke Nolan, the main character and victim of her father’s sexual abuse. Brooke is the only one who could adequately tell her story and elicit the emotional response that the story gets from the reader. While the story could have been told from the viewpoint of a third person narrator, the reader would not have felt the emotional closeness to Brooke and her suffering. Brooke is able to convey her story from her viewpoint as a young victim of abuse. She tells of her pain, her lack of security, and her lack of understanding about what is happening to her.
