Brooke Nolan
Brooke Nolan is the narrator and main character of this novel. The novel follows Brooke’s struggle with sexual and emotional abuse from the time she was six years old until she took her father to trial for raping her. She was nineteen when he was found guilty and sentenced to the maximum time allowable for his crimes.
Like any other little girl, Brooke believed her father was a hero, especially after she watched him save her brother’s life when he almost drowned. As Brooke got older and began to visit the homes of friends, Brooke realized that her family was not normal. In one particular instance, she was eating dinner with her boyfriend’s family when his younger brother spilled a glass of milk.
