Summary
Chapter 7 - Bernie goes to a nearby restaurant and looks through Leaphorn's notebook. She feels a little guilty going through her former captain's private journal, but Louisa had told her that his next of kin and contact information would be in it. As Bernie opens the journal she is discouraged by what she sees. Leaphorn wrote in a complicated code, so it is difficult to figure much out. There are some letters, numbers, and symbols in the back of the journal. She doesn't know what they mean, but she feels as if she has seen them before now. She does get the address of someone she is able to later identify as Austin Lee. She has no idea about what kind of relationship exists between Leaphorn and Austin Lee, but she calls anyway and leaves a message explaining the situation. Since she is...
