Chapters 22-26 Summary
In chapter twenty-two, it is the following morning and Gail asks for Keith's rifle behind her husband's back. Keith gladly gives it to her, carefully showing her how to use it and suggesting she hide it under her bed. Before the Porters leave, Keith suggests they have a security firm come from Toledo to make sure Cliff Baxter is not bugging their phones. Later in the afternoon, Keith is working on the farm when a visitor from Washington, DC arrives. The man is Charlie Adair, Keith's former boss. They go for a walk and Charlie tells Keith that the President asked for Keith by name when attempting to fill a slot on his staff. Keith refuses, but Charlie insists that Keith needs to refuse the job in person. Eventually Charlie talks Keith into flying to Washington, DC with him.
