Chapters 9-12 Summary
In chapter nine, another week passes. Keith spends the Labor Day holiday with his Aunt Betty and finds himself the subject of several attempts at matchmaking. Despite his single status, Keith feels as though he is not really available to date. However, he does take one woman's number. A few days later, an old college buddy of Keith's shows up at his door. Jeffrey Porter was against the Vietnam War, a fact that tore he and Keith apart twenty years ago. In fact, Jeffrey wrote to Keith in Vietnam and called him a baby killer. However, Keith is happy to let bygone be bygones and welcomes Jeffrey into his home. The two men get drunk and talk about old times, a subject that inevitably includes discussion of Annie Baxter.
