Chapters 5-8 Summary
In chapter five, Keith Landry drives around the county, looking at familiar landmarks that have changed. Keith stops at the gas station and fills up, asking questions about the job prospects in town. Keith then continues on, stopping at the cemetery to visit the graves of relatives and then he drives past the Baxter home, intent on stopping, but finding himself unable to do so. At the same time, Cliff Baxter stops at the gas station and learns that Keith is back in town.
In chapter six, Cliff Baxter drives around town, thinking about Keith Landry. Cliff knows that his wife and Keith were lovers in both high school and throughout college.
