Summary
In Chapter 4, Niru flies to Nigeria with his father. Just as always, Obi becomes another person once they arrive—he becomes more aggressive and overly energetic. Niru also has his usual feelings of being uncomfortable and overwhelmed by the masses of people, heat, smells, and unfamiliar food. During past trips, OJ settled in with no problems and accompanied Obi on visits with old men who told stories about the past. When Niru told Meredith about his fear of going to Nigeria, where being gay is punishable with prison time, Meredith insisted that he did not have to go and that Niru could live with her family. Niru rejected her offer and now finds himself in Nigeria with his father, who takes both his passport and ticket, effectively placing Niru under his control.
