Point of View
The novel is written in first person from the perspective of Dash Gibson. The limited perspective is necessary to build the suspense and to preserve the mystery. Dash seems to be an honest narrator and most readers will believe he is providing a full account of the events as he sees them. One of the indications that Dash is telling the entire story appears in the opening scene in which he describes the reality of toilets on a space station. Dash is forced to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and the toilet he is using breaks. That situation would be embarrassing for most youngsters and the fact that Dash offers up those embarrassing details will make most readers believe him when he talks about other aspects of life, including his belief that Dr. Holtz was murdered.
