Chapter 41 to 44 Summary and Analysis
In Chapter 41, Dalton served Teresa some food during a feast and was tired and bored. His focus was the minister, but he needed to handle some other matters instead of laughing at the Minister's jokes. Bertrand then asked Lady Chanboor to forgive his joke, but she dismissed it and added that he was incorrigible.
Tess asks what the joke was and Dalton said that when they got home, he would demonstrate it. Dalton saw one of the Directors in the middle of a serious conversation. Most people in the room seemed to discuss Claudine Winthrop and Dalton and Bertrand discuss the tragedy. They discuss the frail grip that they have on the ideals they cherish and the hope to live in a peaceful society.
They talk about the Sovereign possibly being ill. He mentions how nice it would be...
