Chapters 9 to 12 Summary and Analysis

In Chapter 9, Kahlan sits up in bed and realizes that Richard is not beside her. They went to bed late and Richard must have gone outside. Heavy rain continued. Richard once used the spirit house to teach the Mud People to make tile roofs instead of grass roofs, which leaked. Kahlan was grateful for a dry place to stay.

Kahlan hoped Richard was settling down over Juni's death and the chickens. Both Richard and the Bird Man looked at the chickens and could not find one that was not a chicken.
