Chapter 16 Summary
Stingo opens this chapter by making fun of his ability to talk, non-stop, about the subjects he knows well. He says his family and friends have shown incredible patience with his wordiness over the years, but adds that sometimes, like on this trip with Sophie, the ability serves him well. His steady stream of talk about the history of peanut farming allows her a much needed break from talking about Nathan or Auschwitz. Listening to him speak of the South, Sophie tells him that she cannot drive and will not be much of an asset to him on a farm. Stingo reassures her that she will fit right in, and begins talking about their wedding. Sophie stops him cold with her reminder that she already has a wedding dress in her luggage, which she was supposed to wear to marry Nathan. Stingo finally...
