Chapters 9-12 Summary

In Chapter 9, Sophie is consumed by jealousy all day, causing the Littles to go to bed without fuss to prevent her wrath. On the porch swing, Sophie reminisces with Carter, remembering picnics they once took in the dark and spoke of dreams to move to Hollywood. Carter joins in, talking about trips to the abandoned mines after they got their driver's licenses.

In Chapter 10, Sophie tells Carter about Whitney and he detects something in her voice. Carter thinks about his conversation with his friend that day and tells her that she deserves someone better than the popular boy she once dated. They begin to argue and Carter tells Sophie she needs someone who cares about her and is willing to take care of her. Sophie bristles at first, but then tells Carter he deserves the same.
