Summary
In Chapter 28, when the North Carolina Central Eagles played their first game, Samuel was overjoyed just to sit on the bench and wear the team’s uniform. They won their first two games against teams that did not offer much competition. However, they lost the next game by 30 points, a loss that angered Lonnie.
The following game, in Knoxville, was also a loss. Murray explained it was a guarantee game, they had been expected to lose. Big schools paid a smaller school to play them in a game they were certain to win.
In Chapter 29, the day before Thanksgiving, Lonnie was surprised to find Samuel practicing when many students were already at home for the break.
