Book II Chapters 9 and 10 Summary
Claire goes to Einar to find out about his attempt to climb the steep cliff out of the village. He tells her he left because his father blamed him for his mother's death because she died during childbirth. His father was cruel to him his whole life. He also tells Claire that he trained for years to leave. Clair says she must leave to find her son and Einar vows to help her.
For an entire year, Claire trains with Einar. He teaches her all sorts of exercises and does training sessions with her to prepare her for her climb.

Claire is leveraging Einar's experience with climbing out of the village to make her experience successful. Even though Claire can choose to go by sea, she opts to climb over the mountain...
