Book II Chapters 7 and 8 Summary
Bethan, one of the six year olds, summons Claire and Alys because her mother, Bryn, is going into labor. When Alys uses a knife to cut the umbilical cord, Claire screams out for Alys not to cut Bryn. Claire also blurts out for Alys not to take away Bryn's baby. Alys assures Claire she isn't going to cut Bryn or do anything with Bryn's baby.
Claire confesses her memory of the C-section to Alys. Claire tells Alys that it didn't hurt because they gave her drugs for the pain. Claire also says they used some kind of electric tool to close the wound. Electricity is something the villagers do not have access to here.
Later, as Claire watches Bryn care for her new baby girl, Claire tells Bryn her story. Bethan and her friends are listening outside...
