Book I Chapters 13 and 14 Summary
Claire starts planning her walks so that she runs into the nurturer and her son. Abe is one now. He's talking and imitating faces Claire makes and what Claire does. The nurturer mentions that Abe still isn't sleeping well at night and he doesn't know what will happen to him if they don't place him with a family.
Over a period of three months, the ship comes back to deliver supplies several times. On the third trip, however, the same boatman is no longer part of the crew. Claire does see Marie, the ship's cook the boatman spoke of during their previous conversation. Claire also notices how each boatman has a different hairstyle. All of this is foreign to Claire because each age group and gender has a prescribed haircut and clothing.
