Honesty is Subjective
One of the main themes in this book is honesty. The definition of honesty is somewhat subjective. Anthony Luca is one of the main men in the Mafia for the New York area, and he is respected and feared by many, yet he has the nickname Honest Abe Luca because of his extreme fairness in all his business dealings even if they are illegal.
There is tension in the relationship between Kendra and Vince because it isn't honest about why he doesn't want to meet her parents. This eventually puts them in a situation where he feels cornered and blurts out the truth only to find that his girlfriend doesn't mind at all. In fact, it clears up many inconsistencies in the relationship between the two.
