Summary

Chapter 37 begins with Jared and his mom laying close together, and she tells him about how she tried to kill Wee’git but failed. Jared goes over to the Jakses as the moving truck appears, and he tries to calm Mr. Jaks down, whose dementia is getting worse. After the Jakses fall asleep, Jared and Sarah try to have sex but are interrupted by the sight of the fireflies again as they “shred” Sarah (279). Jared sees a vision of another Sarah, grotesquely mutilated, come out of the wall and approach him. Then he sees the otter people again and goes home to his mother, who curses them away. The next day, his mom will not let Sarah in the house, because her witch blood is bringing these spirits in – Mrs. Jaks is a witch too. He awakens the next morning to an ambulance...
