Alexandra was miserable by the third week after her debut. At the Donleigh's ball, Jordan's grandmother urged a man named Lord Ponsonby to dance with Alexandra. He was a wealthy and prosperous man, who needed a wife. When Alexandra found out about his intentions she quickly retreated and tried to get away from him. Melanie introduces herself and tells Alexandra that she is impressed by her intelligence after hearing her correct Lord Ponsonby. Alexandra warns her that she is unpopular and being associated with her would only be detrimental to Melanie. Anthony appears and she runs to him.
