Chapter 26

As Eleanor struggles to get up, Daniel jumps down on top of her, telling her to stay down. From above, the roar of dynamite can be heard. Joseph and Jie are fighting off the Hungry Dead, while Eleanor sees the grimoire lying half-buried in the dirt. Daniel pockets it. They then rush toward the river. There, Joseph is prepared. Eleanor tells him Marcus has returned in her brother’s body. As Marcus confronts Joseph, the Dead go past them. Eleanor, Daniel, and Jie rush to the boat. As they paddle out, Eleanor realizes that she has the power, the gift, to affect the dead. She knows she can use the machine. Corpse by corpse, Eleanor sends them back to sleep. As she looks up into the spirit realm, going beyond her own body, she sees the spirits of her brother and her...
