Summary
Chapter 13
Eleanor returns to Clarence, and they return home. Early the next morning, Eleanor goes back to Joseph and the Spirit-Hunters. They all go to the library. Eleanor is impressed by Jie, who can go wherever she wants, do whatever she wants, and can fight. Jie explains she came to America to escape things like foot binding. By pretending to be a boy, Jie can be free forever. She explains she met Joseph and Daniel at a saloon playing cards, where she cheated Daniel. Jie goes on to say that Eleanor doesn’t have to wear a bodice, that she has a choice. At the library, they search for a Germantown Academy yearbook, as well as for information on ghosts in Philadelphia. Eleanor, meanwhile, asks the librarian if she knows anything about the Gas Ring, but the librarian does not. Eleanor then sees...
