Hannah James Jackson
Hannah is a 17-year-old girl who, early on, makes it clear that she is somewhat uncomfortable with who her parents are and what they do but that she is even more concerned with how her parents' lifestyle choices cause others to perceive her. While Hannah is clearly embarrassed by her mother at times, the reader also gets the sense that she feels the need to protect her mother from the judgment of others, financial troubles and emotional pain, revealing Hannah's mature and responsible nature. Through her relationship with her father, however, the reader sees that several of Hannah's emotions are rooted in her childhood experiences. She reveals feeling abandoned, rejected and unloved by her father and these emotions surface in some capacity during every interaction with him.
