Summary
"The Grave" opens with Erin in the process of digging a grave on October 1. She contemplates the slow, boring, difficult process, recognizing that it needs to be done. At first, adrenaline helps speed up the process, but eventually her emotions level out and she struggles to continue. After 45 minutes of digging, she decides to Google the proper depth of burial. She wants to do a good job so that the body is not discovered. After two hours, Erin has dug "three feet deep, two feet wide, and six feet long" (6). She reveals that she is burying the body in the forest in Norfolk, where she had celebrated her anniversary with her partner, Mark. She wonders whether the body is still warm, and reveals it is Mark, her husband. She Googles it again, learning that his extremities will be cold...
