Chapter 26 Summary

Geoffrey invites Darcy away with him and Max for Christmas. Darcy declines, deciding to spend the holiday with Ethan. Darcy and Ethan purchase a last minute, patchy tree and decorate it. Ethan and Darcy discuss baby names while appraising their tree before deciding to open their gifts. Ethan gives Darcy a sweater he hopes she will wear home from the hospital. When Darcy gives Ethan her gift of a messenger bag, Darcy realizes that Ethan is still suffering writer's block and assures him that things will be better in the New Year. Ethan convinces Darcy to call her mother. Darcy suffers through a stilted, cool conversation after which she breaks down in tears. Ethan consoles her by telling her she did her best and will be a better parent to her sons.

On Christmas Morning, Darcy feels let down after opening the gifts...
