New York City is the most populous city in the United States. It is the setting for three stories in the collection: Missed Connection—m4w,” “The Serial Monogamist’s Guide…,” and “You Want to Know What Plays Are Like?” Although New York City is often highly romanticized in stories and popular culture, these stories all highlight a sense of heartbreak and isolation that often persists both because of and in spite of the crowded nature of New York.
