Brandywine Hunt
The novel centers around Brandywine Hunt, a sprawling multi-million dollar suburban planned community. The mere title of "planned community" evokes irony as caring neighbors build a sense of community; human connection cannot be planned but rather must be felt. The development was built by Scott Browne's highly successful company, Browne Land Management. Julian and his mother live in Cheshire Hunt, where all of the homes are 5,500-8,500 square feet and cost between $1.2-$2.3 million dollars. Horse farms were demolished to clear the land and thus all of the streets are pretentiously named after horses, and the neighborhoods within the developments are named after local hunts. The development boasts a number of amenities for residents such as tennis and basketball courts, pools, and even a cemetery.
