Summary

Chapter 18 begins as Sam accompanies Andrea to her cancer scan. On the way home, Sam gives Andrea a check to pay for her mortgage, even though it is the remainder of her savings.

Later, while Sam speaks to Phil on the phone at work, Simon enters and berates Sam for losing a client and emitting “a depressed vibe,” refusing to let Sam speak (183). He leaves after threatening to fire her. Sam spends the remainder of the day filled with anxiety as Joel messages her to offer support.
