Blade
Blade is the teenage protagonist of Solo. While living in Hollywood, he expresses disdain for the phony people who surround him, including his father named Rutherford Morrison. Though Rutherford suffers from addiction, Blade shows him little sympathy and instead resents his father for complicating his relationships. When Blade later learns that Rutherford is his adoptive rather than biological father, he feels even more disconnected from the Morrisons. Only when Rutherford travels to Ghana, gets sober, develops a friendship with Sia, finances new amenities for Konko, and accompanies Blade on his journey to meet Lucy do they finally begin repairing their troubled relationship.
Blade dates a shallow and ingenuine girl named Chapel throughout the first half of Solo. His conviction that Chapel loves and supports him unconditionally prevents Blade from recognizing how she takes advantage of him.
