Summary
Ellis made the decision to call his father to come bail him out of jail. Another argument about Ellis’s career choice ensues between the two men, finalizing in Ellis apologizing to his father for him having lost the wrong son.
What follows is s tearful rendition of the events that occurred the day that Ellis’s brother, Henry, died. Through his child's eyes, he had remembered the day differently, but it had been his father who was home alone with Henry when he stopped breathing. The guilt is a burden that his father has had to bear for most of Ellis’s life. As a means of reciprocation, Ellis shares with his father the story of the Dillard children.
