Summary

Page 51 continued with the 1979 section. Although the Bummer appeared to be sleeping, he occasionally issued directions at Richard. It began raining; the Bummer loaded the trunk with rocks so the car would not become unstable and slip over the cliff. Depressed by the rain, Kevin grew introspective and self-hating as they drove, but he was cheered by the bright colors of the jungle.

In the next section, House, Kevin says that when April was sixteen she told him that she was pregnant. She made him promise not to tell Linda and told him she was getting an abortion. Kevin relayed April’s confession to Richard, who advised him to tell Linda.

Back in El Salvador, Richard, Kevin and the Bummer entered a small, battered cantina. The Bummer showed the bartender, a woman, and a drunken man the picture of Tad, but no one...
