Summary

In Chapter 20, General Goguet and Roelf Pool arrive in Chicago. Dirk expects to meet them at Paula's dinner that evening. Dirk drops by Paula's studio just after lunch, an usual time for his visits, and finds Dallas entertaining Goguet and Roelf. Roelf immediately begins talking excitedly to Dirk about his plan to visit Selina that afternoon. He says Selina was the first person to teach him about beauty. Dallas laughingly says that Goguet and Roelf have skipped out on the “elaborate programme” planned for them in favor of visiting Selina. Dallas announces that they'll all go to visit Selina. On the way, Roelf talks with Dallas about their previous adventures in France and her plans to go there to study. Roelf promises it will be “great.”
