Chapter 39 Summary

Hiro stops at a Snooze-N-Cruise on the Alcan Highway, which is essentially a two thousand mile-long franchise. Hiro parks his motorcycle and starts asking around for Chuck Wrightson, and eventually finds him. Hiro and Chuck walk into the Towne Hall, a huge inflatable building filled with different franchises. Chuck is the former president of the Temporary Republic of Kenai and Kodiak, or TROKK. Chuck tells Hiro that the Russian Orthodox people, or Orthos started pouring down the coast from Russia. About fifty thousand Russians ended up in TROKK, and one day an Airstream appeared in the town square, and the Russians issued a proclamation that told all of the Americans to leave and turn the power over to the Orthos.
