Summary

In Chapter 7, Billie meets Mason for lunch. Mason has invited Billie to be on his television show. Billie was excited about the prospect, but she is now exhausted from helping Louise. She repeats her plan to turn down Mason's invitation. Several people recognize Mason, and he is gracious as he signs autographs. Mason is a widower and says he cannot imagine dating. They discuss Billie's feeling that romantic love is unsustainable. Mason says Joey continues to improve. Mason had tried to pull Joey out of his depression, but Joey resented him for it. Though Billie had basically the same advice, Joey accepted it from her. Billie talks about spending time with her grandmother who claimed to have magic power to remove warts and change traffic lights to green. She says she “channeled” her grandmother to help Joey.
