Chapter 1 Summary

Syfka lands in Zane's land. She is looking for a falcon criminal that she thinks might be hiding among his people. Danica, who is Zane's pair bond, joins Zane in greeting and speaking with Syfka. Even though Syfka and Zane's people have a peace agreement with each other, they still do not like each other.

Danica has been practicing a special dance with the teacher A'isha. She seems a little dizzy and woozy, which has Zane concerned. After Syfka flies off to return later, Zane and Danica talk about trying to find the criminal with Erica. Zane tells Danica about his brother Anjay, who had been the heir prior to Zane, talking with Empress Ahnmik to try to get her help in the war effort.
