The NICU
The NICU is where Sarah's twins, William and Hope, spent about seven days when they were born. This is because the lungs of both were not yet fully developed when doctors had to induce labor due to Sarah's cholestasis of the liver to save the children. This was also where Sarah was forced to spend much of her time just after the birth, praying for the health of her babies. However, the NICU was also where she realized how difficult it was for her to connect with strangers when she was incapable of smiling or showing typical facial emotions. She tried to interact with other struggling parents in the NICU, but was overwhelmed by their vulnerability as much as her own.
