Summary
In Chapter Nine: "The NICU," Continued, Sarah prayed for her twins and was relieved that Anna was not bothered by her face. However, Hope was also moved to the NICU, and Sarah, who tried to make conversation with other mothers in the hospital, realized how difficult it is to build connections without a smile. The nurses gave very little information about the twins' conditions and Sarah unconsciously despised all of them except for Kate who treated her children like they were their own people. When they were moved to a semi-private room, Sarah saw another parent hold his child for the first time. As Sarah only spends time between the NICU and CPR classes, she decided that trading her face for her children was fair.
