Victor
Victor is a once-notorious writer who has recently moved back to his hometown after his divorce. He does not have family or friends left there, but almost immediately, he starts remembering events from his childhood there. He chooses a local pub, and when he starts making friends there, he recognizes that he might be staying in his hometown for longer than he had planned.
Victor is not entirely satisfied with his life, not even before his divorce. He had ambitions to write a tome of nonfiction or a novel, but he never could sit down to write. His lack of motivation was what drove his wife Rachel to divorce him. She became better known and more successful, while Victor became less well-known and less ambitious.
At the same time, Victor has not entirely given up on writing now, in his 50s and living back in his hometown. But...
