Summary
In Chapter 13, Rachel calls Victor to tell him that he texted her the night before. Victor tries to flirt with her on the phone, but she remains uninterested. He tells her that he used one of the notebooks she gave him to write, but she tells him that she gave him “dozens of them” (176). Victor imagines what she could be doing while she talks to him and afterwards. He considers multiple situations – “Or. Or. Or” (177).
In Chapter 14, Victor sees Fitzpatrick at Donnelly’s when he arrives. Victor decides to avoid Fitzpatrick to sit with his new friends by the window. He thinks Fitzpatrick has likely seen him, but he “didn’t look his way” (178). Soon after, Victor notices that Fitzpatrick has left. Brenda comes by to say hello to the group, with Victor in it.
