Point of View
The novel is almost entirely narrated through Barely Blur's present tense, first-person narration. This lends a degree of immediacy to the progression of the story. This point of view also immerses the reader in the dystopian world the story is set in, thus intensifying the effect. This point of view also allows the reader to notice the development in Blur's character; as Blur's perceptive of the world changes, it is as if the reader's is, too. Thus, Blur's growing capacity for empathy is apparent. Blur's capacity for introspection increases as the plot develops; the first-person narration makes this growth evident, since, essentially, the reader's capacity for understanding Blur increases with Blur's own self-understanding.
