Summary

Part One begins with Blur narrating in the first-person, present tense. He is transporting a young man named Liandro, whom he holds captive, to Utah. It is unclear why or to whom he is transporting Liandro, but it is evident that Blur is a mercenary man-for-hire. The reader learns Blur is 50 years old, and that he lives in his camper, which he calls the Guiding Star, with his dog Flip. He took Flip in after he was involved in an operation busting an illegal dog-fighting ring.
