Summary
In Chapter 14, as Maura watched television coverage of men rioting, she thought that women would not be rioting if it were men who were falling into comas. Maura held the head of her cellmate and lover in her lap. Kayleigh was asleep, her head and hands encased in the cocoon material. Maura’s insomnia kept her from going to sleep.
When Lila arrived at Roger’s house, there was a crowd gathered. Jessica was pounding her husband’s face with a brick. Lila ordered Jessica to stop. She did for a moment but then went after a man who had come close to try to get a picture with his cell phone. Lila shot her.
Meanwhile, Magda and Kayleigh had found one another in the dark. They could hear Maura singing. It was dark. Kayleigh squatted and felt grass under their feet...
