Trish Edgewater
Trish Edgewater is the main character and first person narrator of the novella. In the narrative present, Trish has worked as a recruiter for the Slumber Corps for seven years. She began the work not long after her sister Dori's death, and the subsequent insomnia outbreak. Trish fiercely defends her work with the Corps, because she wants to believe she is an inherently good person, simply interested in saving the lives of people like her sister. However, after Trish pitches Justine Harkonnen at a local drive, Trish's life becomes increasingly confusing.
Four months later, she finds herself desperately trying to convince Justine's husband Felix not to stop donations of their baby's sleep to the Corps.
