One of Us. Following the directions in the text, Lia arrives at a house in the middle of nowhere and is let in by a girl named Ani, one of the Skinners from the group session she attended. There are dozens of other Skinners there, some with their hair and skin painted metallic silver, others with circuitry designs drawn all over their faces, and still others with transparent skin showing the wiring beneath. Ani leads Lia over to where she is sitting with Quinn and a male named Jude that Lia recognizes as being one of the first download recipients. Jude is completely silver colored, and the clear flesh on his right arm exposes the circuitry beneath.
