Chapters 16 through 18 Summary

In chapter sixteen, Jordan telephones Reece and asks if she can return the video tapes. Reece says she's headed to Greysome Point and invites Jordan to join her. They make plans for Jordan to leave work early the following day for a weekend together. Susan arrives in Jordan's office seconds after the phone call ends and asks Jordan to stay late to work on a piece that is shorter than had been expected. Jordan refuses which makes Susan angry. Jordan then reminds Susan she's taking off early the following day which makes Susan angrier. Jordan stands her ground for several minutes, refusing to be bullied into taking on additional assignments, but then caves in and agrees to add five hundred words to an article written by another reporter. She quickly discovers the article is more like a thousand words short.
