Chapter 7 Summary
Joanna Craig arrives in New Mexico, where she bails Billy Tuve out of the Gallup jail and takes him to a hotel room to question him about the diamond. An attorney, she declares herself his attorney of record and creates the client-attorney privilege. Billy Tuve does not trust her immediately. He is silent and non-responsive. He says that the other white people he has known were always after something. Joanna explains about her father, her mother, the air collision, and her search for her father's severed arm. She notes that if they can find the old man in the canyon, they will be able to prove that Tuve is innocent.
